Curriculum: Owen Hart, Jr. was born in Jacksonville, FL. He received his first set of drums at 5 years of age. He began to play in the Church that he grew up attending with his family. His formal education in the academics of music started at about the age of 10 with piano lessons. At the age of 12 was the start of his formal studies on drums in the Duval County public school system. Owen continued with this until finishing high school in 1989 at Douglas Anderson School of the arts in Jacksonville. While combining playing gigs in the jazz scene locally and also still in church, he attended Jacksonville University as a Music performance major.

Owen moved to New York in April of 1997 as a result of an extended contract to accompany the Urban Bush Women, Dance Company. This experience launched his career further into an international exposure with a two week tour in Switzerland in addition to other performances in the US. Now settled in his Brooklyn residence Owen was busy with a schedule of daily rehearsals with U.B.W. Dance co., ‘practice sessions’ with great musicians in the afternoons and having the evenings free to explore what was happening on the music scene. He quickly started working a steady gig on Monday and Tuesday nights at the Village Lantern, a popular hang in the west village. Meeting and playing with the musicians who would pass by and sit in resulted in more valuable playing experience. These are some of the musicians Owen worked with; Rob Dixon, Abram Wilson, Ronald Westray, Gregory Tardy, Benny Green, Vanessa Rubin, Wycliffe Gordon and Ravi Coltrane.

In September of 2001, Owen began teaching at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen. While residing in the Netherlands, Owen balanced his twenty hour per week teaching schedule with a much busier tour and recording schedule with artist such as; Timucin Sahin, Ramon Valle, Michael Moore, Ernst Reijseger, Ernst Glerum and Juraji Stanik. Also including US based artist; Craig Handy, Don Braden, Seamus Blake, David Berkman, Conrad Herwig, Dena DeRose, Ralph Peterson, Brian Lynch and many others.
