ENGLISH VERSION: Roberto was born in Naples, Italy, 1975. At the early age of nine, his parents decided to buy him his first professional drum kit because they were sick of him drumming on every surface in the house. He immediately started lessons with a local teacher named Fredy Malfi (Fred Bongusto, James Senese), who would teach him the basic techniques of drumming (dynamics, reading charts, & rhythm). When he turned fourteen he made his first step into the music world. He got hired to be the drummer of a band called “Baylon”. After three years of jamming and having a true band experience, he was ready to move on and start exploiting his talents both on stage and in studio recordings. At this point he was asked to join a band called “Fiori Del Male” with whom he would go on to tour through Italy. They would spend the next five years performing special events, TV shows, radio shows, conventions, & competitions. They got much recognition in the Italian music world, which in turn would push Roberto into becoming the professional drummer he is today. Thanks to the publicity and press he got with “Fiori Del Male”, Roberto would go on to collaborate with many other artists in the years to come. To name a few; Monica Fiorillo (T. Esposito, S. Da Vinci), Francesco Frullone (E. Bennato), Sandro Sibillo (G. Paoli), Lucio Mazzaro (M. Nazionale), Marco Cimmino, & Francesco Sondelli. “Chao-Shi” (Mario Pagliarulo, Francesco Sondelli, Elio De Stefanis and Roberto Zincone) would be the last band he would play with in Italy, before moving to Los Angeles. This band was so powerful that they made it into the “Italian Encyclopedia of Rock”. They got the attention of MTV, as well as many indie-rock labels, but their most interesting connection was made with Lee Bench, a well-known engineer who has his own recording studio in L.A. and has worked with several artists such as; Steve Lukather, Bernard Fowler, Ziggy Marley etc..
“Chao-shi” packed their bags and made the move over to the States to begin recording their first English EP at Lee Bench’s studio and to make some new connections in the music scene.
When the EP was finished, they decided to change their name and tour L.A. as “Ozono”. Unfortunately one of the band members was forced to travel back to Italy, so “Ozono” hired on a new lead singer, Malin Akerman, and continued their journey forward. As they moved through the L.A. venues, a healthy fan base was established and their name got spread through word of mouth, because of this they were approached by Michael Jay (EMINEM, Ricky Martin, Celin Dion) wanting to work with them in one way or another…and so began the connections. Eddie Kramer (The Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Kiss) and Jimmy Waldo (S. Vai, Malmsteen, New England, Alcatrazz) are two of the many wonderful new contacts with whom Roberto works. Thanks to their constant support and belief in him, Roberto is slowly becoming one of the most consistently sought after session-men, both for live and studio performances.
